A debutante ball is the formal coming-of-age occasion for girls. Several countries have their own variation of the debutante ball, but most have a core of similarities. Most debutante balls consist of young women in formal attire escorted by her father being presented to society. This is usually done through a society and many girls come out at the same time. The food should be equally formal for the occasion.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Plan the guest list and determine how many people will be attending the ball. Where do these people come from? Catering to the crowd is a sure way to please.

  2. Step 2

Make your food as elegant as the ladies. This is a formal event and the food should be equally as formal. Consult a local chef or catering service to get prices and ideas. Get a book on the art of food presentation from your local library or book store.

  3. Step 3

Keep in mind that the debutante ball usually consists of a sit-down 3 or 4 course meal. This means you will need to plan a salad, appetizer, main course and a dessert. The salad is not always added and the main course is usually a form of beef.

  4. Step 4

Consider that some of your guests may prefer vegetarian meals. Fish may also accommodate.

  5. Step 5

Control your costs if the ball is for a charitable purpose. Many debutante balls combine the presentation of their ladies into society with one of the reasons they are being presented, which is to perform their charitable duties. The food can still be elegant for lower cost. Consider outside catering or a hotel that will work with your charity. Consider enlisting friends and preparing some of the food yourself. Ask a chef in training from the local culinary art school to help out.

  6. Step 6

Be prepared with breakfast for the guests. Debutante balls can go into the very early morning hours and the ladies will be hungry from a long night. Breakfast croissants and other pastries served with juice and coffee can bring the event to a close.
