Difficulty: Moderately Challenging
Step1
Get insurance. Research the Internet or your local yellow pages for carriers that specialize in motorcycle/moped insurance. These specialized salespeople will be more knowledgeable when it comes to providing you with Vespa-specific insurance (and quite possiby cheaper!).
Step2
Purchase a security system or alarm for your Vespa. Vespa and other retailers sell alarms and security devices that will activate when a Vespa is touched or when someone attempts to start the engine. Check out www.vespausa.com to see the Vespa security products.
Step3
Think about getting a remote control starter. Not only would this be a smart move for you as the driver, but retailers sell Vespa remote control starters that are linked to the scooter's security system.
Step4
Consider purchasing Vespa accessories to physically protect your Vespa from damage. The official website, www.vespausa.com, offers a full line of accessories, such as windshields, covers and floor mats. Many other moped/scooter retailers carry these protective items as well. To keep your Vespa in the best physical condition, protective products are not optional!
Step5
Keep your Vespa out of inclimate weather and steer clear of roads with rock or debris. This is obvious, but important in order to maintain the shiny, flaw-free appearance that Vespa owners are so proud of! It's tempting to take the Vespa, but if it's raining, hailing or you plan on driving on unpaved roads, take the car. You'll be glad you did when there's 2 inches of mud on your car and your Vespa is sitting pretty in the garage.
Step6
Follow the Vespa manual. Most people don't even glance at their vehicle operating manual, and who can blame them? They are boring! But a Vespa is a special vehicle and needs special attention, so take the time to read up on the literature. This will help maintain the working parts for longer periods of time.
