Whether you call your antique car a woody or woodie, those cars with wood bodies have a timeless style no longer available in today's vehicles. Finding a woody mechanic can be challenging, so look for experienced shops that work on various classic cars.

Difficulty: Moderate
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Join a national woodie club. Some may have technical advisors available to club members who may be able to refer someone experienced. Also, members may include links to their own specialized web pages to help you in your search.

  2. Step 2

Post a request on woody club sites under discussion forums requesting a referral.

  3. Step 3

Refer to your area Better Business Bureau for members to ensure there are no complaints against the shop.

  4. Step 4

Call the American Automobile Association (AAA). They can refer you to an AAA accredited auto repair facility.

  5. Step 5

Research classic or antique car shows and attend them. This is a great way to get verbal referrals from experienced owners of woodies.

  6. Step 6

Use the yellow pages or Internet to search for shops that do auto restoration of antique and classic cars. If a shop restores woodies, then they probably offer mechanic services or can tell you who does.

  7. Step 7

Check local area enthusiast websites for recommendations.

Tips & Warnings
  • There may be a fee for joining any national or local clubs.
  • You must be a paid member of AAA to access their approved auto repair facilities.
