Without a good antenna, your satellite radio will never give you the best performance. The antenna mount is critical as there are some satellite radio antenna variations made exclusively for certain car manufacturers and for marine use.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Begin the search for the right satellite radio antenna by starting with the brands for your satellite radio service provider, either Sirius or XM. This will help you narrow your selection by about half.

  2. Step 2

Move on to the type of antenna you require: car, home or marine. For home use you can go with an antenna that also hooks in with your cable television and stereo system. This will require outdoor mounting brackets and plenty of cord. A properly mounted, quality antenna can double or triple your signal quality, so check out some of the resources listed at the end of this article.

  3. Step 3

Decide on the right satellite radio antenna for your car by cross-checking with the manufacturers' recommended mounting for your make or model. Many of the antennas on the market are designed for a wide range of cars.

  4. Step 4

Choose a marine antenna for your satellite radio that is designed to be impervious to the elements and still deliver the highest quality satellite radio signal possible. The antenna will come with a mounting bracket and around 30 feet of cable, so you should be able to hook it up without a great deal of difficulty. There are fewer makes and models to choose from than those for the car or home. Just remember to get the antenna for your service provider.

  5. Step 5

Select one of the sources listed below and browse through the various models available. You should be able to narrow your decision down to a few good choices in a matter of minutes.

Tips & Warnings
  • The first thing to consider whenever you select any accessories is your satellite radio provider.
  • The antenna is the first item you should upgrade if you are having trouble getting a good signal with the antenna that came with your receiver.
