Write a Résumé for a Product Management Job

This little piece of paper will land you the job or become next week's kitty litter box liner. So, your résumé must catch the employer's attention with your ability to be a product manager. Don't be too wordy, use strong adjectives and keep it clean. The old adage that résumés should be one page is false, but try not to go more than two pages.

Instructions

    • 1

Format your résumé in a clean, professional manner so your name and the position you are seeking stands out.

    • 2

Write an objective statement of between 3 to 5 sentences. Don't be too wordy. If you don't have a cover letter, you must sell your skills, interest and desire in this statement.

    • 3

Decide if you want your résumé to be functional or chronological. Functional résumés highlight your skills up front, with no breakdown by job positions. A chronological résumé highlights each position you have held with a description of major duties.

    • 4

Highlight your skills that are relative to the product management position you are pursuing. Don't list every skill you have, just those that are relative to the position.

    • 5

Utilize online sources such as Monster.com or Careerbuilder.com for the purpose of verbiage. Search for a position similar to the one you desire, and try to use some of the words they have specifically highlighted in the job description area.

    • 6

Edit your final draft; make sure all dates, spellings, chronology and experience information are accurate.
