You've determined that you need a commercial auto insurance policy. That's the easy part. The hard part is finding the right policy at the right price. You shouldn't buy the first policy that you see. By comparing different policies and insurance agencies, you will be an informed consumer and will know that you are getting the right coverage at the right price.

Instructions
  1. Step 1

Create a list of all of the information about the vehicle(s) and the driver(s) that you will be insuring. You need complete information about what and who is being covered to make educated decisions about your company's insurance policy.

  2. Step 2

Ask around. Ask colleagues and other business owners who they have their auto insurance policies with and if they are satisfied with the customer service, coverage and price. Word of mouth is a great way to get a review about not only the policy but how the company is to work with.

  3. Step 3

Conduct research. The internet is a valuable tool; use it. The majority of insurance companies have websites with online forms that will give you an instant quote or an agent will contact you at a later date with more information.

  4. Step 4

Compare prices and coverage. You should get at least three price quotes. A lot of information is available on the internet and by calling companies directly. It may seem like you are asking the same questions over and over but it will be worth it when you find the right policy and get the right coverage for your company vehicles and employees.

  5. Step 5

Ask questions. Ask what type of coverage you really need and if you can save money by increasing your deductible. Inquire if discounts are available for features that reduce the risk of injury or theft. Find out if there are other discounts available such as lumping different types of policies together.

  6. Step 6

Evaluate the company behind the policy. Just as important as the quote and coverage that you are getting from an auto insurance company is the company that is insuring your company vehicle(s). Check the financial health and customer reviews of the company before purchasing your policy.

  7. Step 7

Decide on which commercial auto insurance policy is the best fit for your needs. You shouldn't shop by price alone. Price is important, but so is a company that answers your questions, responds to your inquiries and handles claims fairly and efficiently.
