You can own a share of a racehorse without putting all of the money and work into training, feeding and vet bills. Follow these steps to own a share in this popular spectator sport.

  1. Step 1

    Find a website to choose the appropriate ownership program for you. There are many different websites and businesses to choose from. You may also be able to do this from a local racehorse owner. Visit the local barns at a racetrack and talk to owners and trainers about buying a share in a racehorse.

  2. Step 2

    Read over all instructions and guidelines for ownership. Make sure there are no certain requirements that you must meet before becoming an owner. If there are, follow the guidelines to meet the requirements.

  3. Step 3

    Determine how much of a share you want to own and how much it is going to cost.

  4. Step 4

    Pay for the share of the horse. Get a receipt of your payment, no matter what form of payment you use. If there is ever a dispute on who owns how many shares of the horse, you will have proof. Have the owner sign the receipt or a contract. Get it notarized if possible.

  5. Step 5

    Receive information on the horse and upcoming races. You should be able to get the horse's history, breeding and performance record.
