When Father's Day rolls around each year, it can be a painful time for those who have lost a father. Here are a few ways to commemorate those dads who are no longer around to celebate this special day.

Instructions

Difficulty: Moderate

Step1
Look at photos of the father. This can be in the form of photo albums, slide shows or displaying framed pictures. Use the photographs to encourage story-telling about the father.
Step2
Send a message. Have the children write a letter, draw pictures or make a gift. If the father is alive, but not living at home, and can receive the messages, send them. Another option is to make a video for him. For teen and adult children, writing a heartfelt letter to their father can be healing, even if he will never read it.
Step3
Incorporate some of the father's favorite things into the day. Cook some of his favorite dishes or participate in an activity that he loved. Talk about times they may have done those activities together with him.
Step4
Plant a tree in the backyard and dedicate it to him, or designate a corner of the yard as a garden in his honor. Each time the family looks at it, they'll be reminded of him.
Step5
Contribute to a cause he supported. If he was involved in a charity, church or organization, donate money or time to that cause.
