A man never forgets his first Father's Day. Sure, it's easy to get him a tie, but why settle for a cliché? There are many other things you can do to show him how much you and the baby care. Make it special with one of the ideas below.

Instructions

Difficulty: Easy

Things You’ll Need:

  • Ceramic picture frame
  • Ceramic paints
  • A great picture of dad and the baby
  • Bucket
  • Car wash detergent
  • Car brushes
  • Paper towels
  • Windshield cleaner solution
  • Leather and vinyl protectorant
  • Vacuum cleaner
  • Trash bags
  • Child's onesie
  • Fabric paints
  • Iron-on decals for fabric
  • $20 bill
  • Tool belt
  • Diapers
  • Baby wipes in resealable, soft-sided travel container
  • Pacifier
  • Baby bottle
Step1
Make a special picture frame at a paint-your-own pottery store. Use the new dad's favorite color to leave tiny footprints on the frame, supplied by his special little boy or girl. Insert a candid shot of the two of them together.
Step2
Take the new dad on a date. Make it special by going to a favorite place he hasn't been since his child's arrival or by going to a place that serves his favorite kind of food.
Step3
Clean his car inside and out, and let him enjoy one day without baby and kid paraphernalia in his vehicle.
Step4
Decorate a plain onesie with a special message from the baby. Use fabric paints and iron-ons. Try "My Daddy is my hero!" or "I get my good looks from Daddy."
Step5
Treat dad to a $20 shopping spree at his favorite store (and no complaining from mom when he gets yet another gadget he already owns).
Step6
Restock dad's tool belt with baby items. Diapers, wipes, pacifiers and bottles can help him tackle his new job with all the right equipment.

Tips & Warnings

  • No paint-your-own pottery place nearby? Go to a local crafts store and decorate a picture frame with acrylic paint for the same effect.
  • You can also make sayings for the onesie that reflect Dad's interests. Try "I'm hooked on you, Daddy" for a fisherman, or "Daddy's future MVP" for a sports fanatic.
  • Resist the urge to use sequins or buttons to decorate the onesie. You don't want to add little things the baby can pull off and choke on.
