How to Play With a Pet Rock

All pets need daily exercise, including a middle-aged pet rock. Take the gray pet rock named Stony from his 1970s box, dust him off and play a few games together. The original pet rock from Baja, Mexico, can sit, stay and roll over, but it still hasn't mastered the jump command.

  • Another person
  • Two other rocks of similar size
  • Barbie car
  • Remote control car or boat

      Take the pet rock for a walk or a hike. Use a leash made out of string, yarn or a leather shoelace.

      Place the rock in a pocket or backpack and head for the hills. Pet rocks love to roll down hills as fast as they can.

      Call your friends and play catch with your pet rock. The object of the game is not to let the pet rock fall. Set a standard. Each player is eliminated once he or she drops the rock three times. The winner is the last player standing.

      Let the pet rock hang out with other rocks, either with one special rock, in piles or in a rock wall formation.

      Take the pet rock anywhere-theme parks, carnivals or baseball games. Put the rock in a safe place and forget it is even along.

      Play hide and seek with a pet rock. The rock likes to be it. Hide and wait for the pet rock to find everyone. This game takes a very, very, very long time.

      Use the pet rock as a base marker in a ballgame The pet rock does not mind because it gets to play the National Pastime.

      Take the pet rock to the water on hot summer days. Pet rocks love to play in creeks and shallow water with other rocks. If the pet rock is feeling brave, trying skipping with the pet rock. Be careful that the pet rock does not get lost. Play in shallow water. Pet rocks cannot swim.

Tips & Warnings

  • Keep the pet rock away from windows or anything glass. Glass will attack a pet rock.
