Step 1
Visit local campgrounds in your area and apply for positions such as camp host, site-sitter, and park management. You'll get paid for something you already do regularly--camp.
-
Step 2
Join a website that searches for camping jobs for you and posts them on the site. One example is www.workamper.com. You're taking a step forward in turning your camping hobby into a real career, full-time or part-time.
-
Step 3
Consider working at a summer camp for youth as a camp counselor. You'll get the benefit of getting paid for your hobby, plus the extra bonus of working with kids. If your kids attend, you'll be closer to them.
-
Step 4
Advertise in your local paper as a camp guide for your choice of camping destinations. Some people want to camp, but prefer having an experienced person lead the way in unknown places. Get a group together and charge for your guidance. You may even want to provide camping equipment (you'll need volunteers or employees to help carry it if you're providing for the entire group).
-
Step 5
Take a group of friends camping. Plan fun and exciting events. Ask them to spread the word about your new career. Soon other groups of friends will hire you to plan their next camping adventure.
-
Step 6
Seek specific potential customers. Approach a best man and suggest a camping trip for a bachelor party. College spring-breakers are other potential customers in your new camping career. Anyone who has some extra time and a desire for being closer to nature is a potential client, sometimes they just need a reason.
-
Step 7
Look in other employment areas. Canoe and rafting guides sometimes camp on weekend trips with their customers. If wildlife conservation is close to your heart, apply for a job with a conservation organization where you'll be outdoors camping a lot while monitoring specific species.
