How to Buy a Double Stroller

Double strollers are a convenient item for parents with two toddlers. Follow these steps to buy a double stroller that fits your needs.

1. Decide what you are going to be using the stroller for most frequently. If you are going to be using the stroller for shopping and errands consider the width of the stroller. Most side-by-side models do not fit between clothing racks or down aisles. If you're going to be using it outdoors consider the all-terrain stroller with large wheels, hand brakes and safety straps.

2. Consider the temperament of your children. If they are likely to fall asleep while out and about make sure both seats recline. If they are toddlers, which they soon will be, consider the fact that with tandem strollers the child in back will most likely be kicking the seat of the child in front.

3. Check to make sure that the stroller will fit in the trunk of your car and that you are capable of lifting it in there. Double strollers are usually a lot longer, wider and heavier than single strollers. The last thing you want when you're putting two tired and cranky children in the car is to have to take the stroller apart to fit it in the trunk.

4. Consider cost when buying a double stroller. Search for the stroller that you are interested in purchasing at used children stores, the newspaper or on the Internet at websites such as craigslist.com. You can usually find them for about one-third of their original price.

5. Buy two strollers if necessary. If you are going to be using the stroller a lot for shopping and errands and like to jog or hike on the weekends, then it might be more feasible for you to have a tandem stroller to keep in the trunk and a jogging stroller for your outdoor fun.
