    Things You'll Need

    • Sweatshirt
    • Felt
    • Yarn
    • Needle and thread
    • Brown eyeliner
    • Socks
    • Furry slippers
      • 1

Get a tan hooded sweatshirt. This will form the head and body of the lion costume. Thrift shops are a good place to look for this item. Get matching track pants as well.

      • 2

Turn the sweatshirt inside out to create the fur for the lion costume. You want to make the Halloween costume as realistic as possible.

      • 3

Cut some felt into long strips to create the lion's mane. The more strips you cut, the thicker the mane will look. Sew them around the hood of the sweatshirt.

      • 4

Use some of the remaining felt to create pointy lion ears. Attach these to the hood of the costume.

      • 5

Stick or sew the tan stocking to the base of the sweatshirt. Attach a piece of yarn to the end of the stocking to form the tuft of the tail.

      • 6

Draw some whiskers on your child's face with brown eyeliner. Color in your child's nose to complete the effect.

      • 7

Put on the sweatshirt and track pants. Use furry slippers to create the back paws.

      • 8

Add some round pieces of felt to a pair socks to create the lion's paws. Put those on your child's hands.

    Tips & Warnings

    • If you can't get a sweatshirt that's the right color, buy a pale sweatshirt and use fabric dye to create the right effect.

    • For the mane, you can also use a wig. Cut out the part that fits over the scalp and fit it around your child's face for a curly mane. Yarn is another option easy option for creating the mane on a lion costume.

    • Face paint is a good alternative to eyeliner. With face paint, you can create a realistic lion's face.

    • Put the paws on at the end so your child's hands are free to adjust the costume.
