Unlike many other types of vacations, a camping trip does not usually offer amenities. If you forget your toothbrush, there isn't a convenient store in the forest lobby where you can buy one, so being prepared is essential. Creating a checklist will help you to organize your trip. Follow these steps.

Instructions

Difficulty: Moderately Easy

Things You’ll Need:

  • Fishing license
  • Boat permits
  • Itinerary

2 Weeks Before Camping

Step1
Make sure your vehicle and boat, if necessary, are ready for the roads.
Step2
Reserve a campground site if you haven't already done so.
Step3
Purchase your fishing license.
Step4
Confirm that your boat permits are up to date.

1 Week Before Camping

Step1
Open up your camping gear and check for any damage.
Step2
Create a list of clothing you will need for the trip. Remember to include bathing suits, sweatshirts, hats, extra socks and undergarments, extra shoes, rain coats and long pants.
Step3
make a list of toiletries you will need. Include hand sanitizer, bug spray, sun block, toilet paper and feminine products.
Step4
form a list of camping gear you will need. This list will obviously be long, but remember the extras like first aid kits, blankets, tarps, backpacks, water jugs, maps, batteries and extra propane or fuel, if necessary.
Step5
generate a list of food and cooking items you will need to bring. Again, this list is long, but don't forget to bring storage containers, trash bags, can openers and lots of bottles of water.

2 to 3 days Before Camping

Step1
Buy food and camping items that you haven't checked off of your individual lists.
Step2
Pack clothing, dry food, and camping gear and put in a central location.
Step3
Make a list of local hospitals or emergency centers near your campsite.
Step4
Create an itinerary including the date and time you expect to return, and leave it with a family member or friend in case you have an emergency.

The Camping Trip Begins

Step1
Secure boats and camping gear properly to your vehicle.
Step2
Bring a map of the area you are going and the campground in your vehicle with you.
Step3
Pack perishable items and ice in coolers
Step4
Leave in plenty of time to find your campsite and get set up before it gets dark.

Tips & Warnings

  • If you decide to extend your camping trip, remember to get in touch with your family and friends back home. Nothing is more frightening than someone not returning from a camping trip!
