Find a trade school that specializes in offering cosmetology classes that cater specifically to beauticians. Some courses that are offered can span anywhere from nine months to two years. You can go to the National Accrediting Commission of Cosmetology Arts & Sciences website to perform a search of accredited schools to jump start your career.
Step2
Request federal and state financial aid to help pay for school. A high school diploma or GED is necessary to request financial aid.
Step3
Apply for a grant or scholarship. Everyone doesn't qualify for financial aid. If they are qualified then their award amount may not cover the full cost of tuition. Get a listing of schools that accept ACE grants at the Careers in Beauty website. The ACE grant was created to help those interested in the cosmetology field.
Step4
Check out The Education Resources Institute, Inc. They are a non-profit organization where you can request student loans.
Step5
Take a basic accounting course or business management class to help aid you in your business venture. Almost half of beauticians are self-employed; it will help in the long run to learn how to work with numbers.
Step6
Look at the licensing requirements listed for your state's board of cosmetology to ensure that you are covering all bases to become a beautician.
