Fairies are mystical beings usually found in natural settings. They are usually associated with magic or peace and love. Everyone's idea of a fairy is personal, and though they may look as different as the people who imagine them, they all share some similar characteristics. Follow the tips below for drawing fairies.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Use pencil and sketch lightly. Like any drawing, remember to break down the figure of the fairy and other elements of the picture into basic shapes. Once the basic shapes, proportions and composition are laid out, more detail can be added.

  2. Step 2

Use a child, or a picture of a child as a model. Fairies are often depicted as human-like figures with some extra features like wings. Usually child-like and cute, they are often depicted in natural poses, not rigid or stiff poses.

  3. Step 3

Draw wings on the fairy. There is a wide variety of wings that can be used in an image of a fairy. It is a very personal choice, and the wings all take different drawing techniques. Some people use bird-like wings for their fairies, some use butterfly of dragonfly wings, while some wings might be round, little and cute.

  4. Step 4

Add clothing to the figure. Many different types of clothing may be used also. Fairies are often depicted wearing natural looking or peasant-like clothing, and some may look ballerina-like. Fairies depicted in art throughout history are usually wearing clothing similar to the fashions of the time the picture was created.

  5. Step 5

Include commonly used fairy details. These should include large eyes, a small nose, pointy ears and beautifully flowing hair. Some fairies may carry wands, or wear flowers or ribbons in the hair.

  6. Step 6

Draw a setting around the fairy. Fairies are usually placed in natural settings. Draw a fairy resting in a flower or on a mushroom. Have the fairy surrounded by leaves, flowers and other foliage.
