How to Throw an Xbox LAN Party

Halo 2 was one of the most played Xbox games and has continued to have a huge following. Playing Halo 2 or other Xbox games online is a great time. A much more exciting way to play these games, though, is with a group of buddies crammed in your living room. Throwing an Xbox LAN party is not hard at all and can be a very rewarding experience.

    Instructions

    Things You'll Need

    • Xbox
    • Four port or larger hub
    • Link cables
    • Televisions
      • 1

Decide on a location for your Xbox party whether it is your home or elsewhere.

      • 2

Identify your friends who have access to the Microsoft Xbox and make sure you have or can get one as well.

      • 3

Speak with your friends and find a good date for everyone about two weeks out.

      • 4

Determine how many televisions you have at your disposal, then call some friends to see who else can bring a television as well. Try to ask friends with the biggest televisions first as they make playing with split screens easier.

      • 5

Remind your friends about the party date as it approaches so no one forgets.

      • 6

Obtain a network hub with enough ports to connect the amount of Xbox consoles that will be at your party. You also need to put enough link cables to connect everyone's Xbox to your hub.

      • 7

Clean out a large room of your house so there is plenty of room for everyone to setup. Having enough room is essential to a good Xbox party, but keeping everyone within earshot is important too. Half the fun is yelling and screaming at each other all evening.

      • 8

Plan ahead what people will put their televisions and consoles on, where they will sit and where they will get their power from. Make sure you have enough power outlets for everyone.

      • 9

Ask everyone to bring something to snack on for the group. This helps keep your costs down.

    Tips & Warnings

    • If you do not have one large room, setup two rooms somewhat near each other. Have everyone together in a room be on the same team. This makes communication much easier and more fun.

    • Give people plenty of advanced notice, and remind them two or three times or people will not show up. If you throw parties where only a few people come, they won't come back.

    • Be sure your friends that may own an Xbox and plan to use it have downloaded the correct reverse compatibility patches to play whatever game you are going to play. If not they will not be able to connect their system to your LAN.

    • Make certain that you invite a few more people than you want to come, many will probably cancel last minute.
