It is not an easy task getting children to entertain themselves. While TV and video games are a common solution, they are not the best for the child. Get creative and find plenty of fun and harmless ways to entertain children on a rainy day.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Do arts and crafts. The sky is the limit when it comes to being creative. Pull out popsicle sticks, pipe cleaners, stickers, and beads. Let your creative juices flow.

  2. Step 2

Build a fort. Using all pillows, blankets, couch and chair cushions in the house, build a fort, clubhouse or maze for smaller children. Although it may look messy, cushions and pillows can be picked up in only a few minutes, and provide hours of fun for smaller children.

  3. Step 3

Put on a puppet show. Make puppets out of old socks, or even just construction paper. Have the children come up with a story, and help put on a show over the top of a couch or chair. Although the play will not last long, the puppets themselves will entertain the children for awhile.

  4. Step 4

Have a day-time sleepless slumber party. Throw pillows and blankets on the living room floor in front of the TV and sack out while watching a good movie. Wear pajamas, eat snacks, roll around, be silly and have a pillow fight.

  5. Step 5

Do a treasure hunt. This can be easy for small children or more challenging for older children. Hide favorite toys or treats and use hints, clues or a map to find the treasures.

  6. Step 6

Picnic indoors. Although it sounds simple, often children are thrilled just to do something so out of the ordinary. Lay out a blanket or tablecloth on the living room floor, and eat lunch or dinner while pretending to be outside.
