The preschooler stage is an exciting age for children and their parents. Most preschoolers are ready for some kind of structured learning. They are eager to be taught new things. Learning can be fun when coupled with stimulating activities. Here are some simple steps to create such activities in the home.

From Quick Guide: Starting Preschool
Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Put out a tray of assorted items and have your preschooler look at it for a few minutes. Then remove one item and have her guess what was removed. Continue to remove more items as you progress with the game.

  2. Step 2

Prepare a set of 3 by 5 inch note cards with pictures of animals, letters or numbers. Cover the top or bottom part of the picture on the card and ask your preschooler to guess what the object is.

  3. Step 3

Present different situations to him such as shopping at the grocery store or scraping a knee and have him tell you what he would do in the situation.

  4. Step 4

Look through a picture book with her. Then, have her use her imagination to tell the story in her own words. Finish up by reading the story to her.

  5. Step 5

Play a board game that is his level with him.

  6. Step 6

Play make-believe with her to help stimulate her imagination and creativity.

  7. Step 7

Exercise patience and let him decide when to stop the activity.

  8. Step 8

Do not coerce your toddler to do any activity that she refuses to do. Allow her to feel good about what she is willing to do as this will help her build confidence in herself.

  9. Step 9

Enjoy the teaching moments, make it fun and don't get upset when he does not do it right.
