Finding a hostel in Wales is easy. As a popular tourist destination there are literally hundreds, either owned privately or under the umbrella of the England and Wales YHA. The following steps will help you to find the best of them.
Decide where in Wales you want to go. Do you want to stay in one hostel or many hostels?
Step2
Define your criteria for a hostel. Location, price and good staff are of course important, but some hostels, particularly Backpackers which you generally find in cities, can be very sociable and full of young world travellers.
Step3
Buy or borrow a guidebook of Wales and see which ones will best cater to your needs.
Step4
See which hostels are recommended by the guidebook. Guidebooks will rarely tell you if a hostel is awful, but they will recommend the good ones.
Step5
Go online and have a look at a list of Welsh hostels. See Resources below for reviews and ratings of hostels both good and bad.
Step6
Play it safe and book a room with the YHA (see Resources below) Private hostels can be an acquired taste and you don't always know what to expect. As a national organisation, YHA try to appeal to everyone and their hostels are in the best locations.
