Qualify for a Job Grant

Going back to work after a period of unemployment can be daunting. You lose your fortnightly benefits, having to wait as long as a month to be paid again. Fortunately, the British government have introduced a job grant entitling you to a tax free sum of up to £250, if you qualify.

Instructions

    • 1

Qualify if you have had to stay on benefits for a minimum of 26 weeks. If you have been on income support, job seekers allowance, incapacity benefit, severe disable allowance for this period you are entitled to a job grant.

    • 2

Find a job that is 16 hours or more and will last at least five weeks. If your partner is working 24 hours or more, and you lose your claim because of this, you can also qualify for a job grant.

    • 3

Tell the job centre you have started work. There is a small form on your job book that you fill out, tear off and send to the address shown.

    • 4

Start work worry free. The great thing about a job grant is it's paid automatically into your account without you having to fill in any forms.

Tips & Warnings

  • This is a grant and you don't have to pay it back.

  • Make sure you give them all your new employer's details because they will need to get in contact with them before they give you a grant.
