An ulcer is a sore located inside of the digestive tract. A peptic ulcer is a common form of ulcer that can develop anywhere from the esophagus to the duodenum (the beginning of the small intestine). Ulcers can also form in the large intestine. Common symptoms of an ulcer are stomach pain and cramping, nausea and weight loss. An accurate ulcer diagnosis can be difficult to achieve. There are several tests to diagnose an ulcer, including X-rays, tissue tests and blood tests.
