Hypoglycemia can be caused by any number of problems or disorders, and stress makes just about any condition worse. Often symptoms and pain, especially those caused by stress, can be relieved through acupuncture. Acupuncture is recognized as a valid therapy by the World Health Organization and hypoglycemia is on the WHOs official list of what the process can treat.

    Use Acupuncture To Treat Hypoglycemia

  1. Step 1

Choose an acupuncturist who is licensed by your state. If your state does not have this kind of certification, look for a certificate from the National Commission for the Certification of Acupuncturists.

  2. Step 2

Interview an acupuncturist near you. Ask how long the person went to school (at least a master's degree), how long she has been in practice and how much experience she has using acupuncture to treat hypoglycemia. More criteria for choosing an acupuncturist can be found at the Worldofacupuncture website (see Resources below).

  3. Step 3

Consult an acupuncturist. Ask what treatments will be used, how long it will take and how much it will cost.

  4. Step 4

Learn about the philosophy behind acupuncture. The use of the needles is meant to redirect the flow of energy through the body, stimulating the healing and immune systems. Find more facts at Internet Health Library (see Resources below).

  5. Step 5

Review your goals, as well as your thoughts and feelings about acupuncture and the practitioner(s) you have interviewed.

  6. Step 6

Make an appointment for treatment. You will almost certainly need more than one and you may need quite a number of visits in total.

  7. Step 7

Know what to expect. The needles an acupuncturist will use are very fine, one-use instruments made of stainless steel. In Chinese acupuncture, the needles are placed at specific points on the body, such as the hand, the spine or the back of the knee.

Tips & Warnings
  • Acupuncture can be used along with a number of other Eastern medicine therapies, including herbal medicine, massage, and Chinese pulse diagnosis.
  • If you don't like needles, don't avoid acupuncture. Many patients report that they barely feel the needles. Sometimes sound and aroma therapy are used at the same time to add to the patient's comfort level.
  • Sometimes symptoms get worse before they get better. This is a common occurrence and should not be cause for discouragement.
