How to Dress for a Bris
Like many other traditional events, it is appropriate to wear conservative, modest clothing to a bris. Generally speaking, the guest should dress as though he or she is going to a synagogue or church. Dressing conservatively shows great respect for the ceremony and one's hosts.

Dress a Man for a Bris
-
1
Wear a suit if you own one. A suit is always appropriate when paired with formal shoes for a traditional Jewish event. Adding cuff links and a tie will let you express your personality while still looking proper.
-
2
Put on a suit jacket and coordinating pants if you do not own a suit. A tie is appropriate but may not be necessary.
-
3
Wear a kippah if possible. Some hosts will provide you with one if you do not have one. You may be able to wear a small hat, but not a ball cap, in place of a kippah.
Dress a Woman for a Bris
-
1
Wear a dress for a bris. Make sure your hem is at least to the middle of your kneecap and your shoulders and cleavage are fully covered.
-
2
Wear formal pants and a coordinating jacket if you are more comfortable in slacks. Be sure to wear a conservative shirt underneath. Add a nice piece of jewelry to add a little spice to your look.
-
3
Choose lower, more conservative heels to wear with your outfit. You will likely be holding the baby at some point and won't want to teeter over with him in your arms.
Dress a Child for a Bris
-
1
Follow the same rules for a man or woman when dressing a child for a bris.

Tips & Warnings
If you think an item is too revealing, it probably is. Choose something more modest.
Choose muted tones over loud colors. A bris is a celebration, but you shouldn't be the disco ball in the center of it.
Sneakers and jeans are not appropriate for a bris, even for young children.
Despite all rules, some teenagers will try to sneak out wearing clothing that isn't tasteful enough for a bris. Be sure to check your child's outfit before your family heads to the bris to avoid surprises.
