Tuxedos may all be composed of the same elements--jacket, slacks, shirt and cummerbund--but all tuxedos are definitely not alike. The cut of the tux, the feel of the fabric, the color and style of the shirt all offer opportunities to look your best and make a stylish statement. This is why it pays to spend a little time and energy when you select a tux for homecoming.

Instructions

Difficulty: Moderately Easy

Things You’ll Need:

  • Current men's style magazine
  • Measurements

Find the Right Tux

Step1
Head a local tux shop to get properly fitted for your tuxedo. You don't want to be stuck with pants that are too short or a jacket that is too small. You want to look and feel good, not self-conscious.
Step2
Call tux shops to compare prices and to make sure they have your size. This will save you the time and hassle of running all over town during homecoming festivities.
Step3
Ask your date what she will be wearing to homecoming well ahead of time, which will give you a chance to select a complementary tux. You may even want to consider taking your date with you to when you go shopping for an appropriate outfit.

Choose Your Look

Step1
Go with black. Grey and white tuxedos are only for those who want to make a statement, while black is basic and always stylish.
Step2
Choose a colored cummerbund if your date wants you two to match. The cummerbund should be the same color as her dress.
Step3
Search upscale men's magazines to find a look you like. You can even mix and match looks by selecting a smart-looking tux from one page and sharp shoes from another.
Step4
Pay attention to the season. While black or blue tuxedos are appropriate for any season, you may want to select an off-white tux during a late summer or early fall homecoming.
Step5
Consider veering away from the classics with of the new "jazz" colors, such as pink or seafoam green. This emerging Hollywood trend offers you a chance to make a statement and stand out from every other guy in the crowd. You may want to ensure you have one or two slick dance moves to complete the image.

Tips & Warnings

  • Don't wait until the last minute. Otherwise, you may end up with a tuxedo radically different than the one you envisioned.
