So you have gotten the fleas off the Dog and Cat, how will you keep them from getting infested again? Get rid of them in the entire house, is how. Cheap and Easily. Organically.
First thing you need to do is get some Borax Powder, there are some very good, cheap name brands. 20 Mule Team is my personal favorite. You may need to ask where it is if it is not by the laundry detergents. Borax is a white, calcified mineral that comes off the Playa's (dried seasonal lakes) and the uses vary, you can even find it used like salt in some ways, such as French Caviar. Mostly it is used as a mild detergent for laundry but one of it's uses is that it makes a great natural insecticide.
Step2
What you will need to do with it is sprinkle it all over, hard floors and carpet alike. I find that it is good to use a broom and spread it around to make sure it is pretty even. Do this as well to furniture and cat and dog beds. Wait one to one and a half hours.
Step3
Vacuum it all up. The fleas go with the borax :D
Step4
Salt is a good help, sprinkle just a little in the deep corners under cushions so any that 'got away' will eat it and they swell up and die. I don't know why they do this (before you ask!).
Step5
Do this a couple days to weeks later (depends on the conditions about hatching, they could hatch in 2 days or 14) and you will be flea free!

I'm allergic to pesticides and found this article very helpful! I have a little dog and she picks them up and brings them in, so I keep my house like a meatlocker and the fleas don't multiply or stay, but one gets in bed with us occasionally and this idea is excellent for me! Thank you.

RKayne, I don't know why you are questioning whether this is your article, but this is sure a help to me! I have 3 dogs and 1 cat, and it is the cat that brings the fleas into the house. Up until now I have had to use those flea powders, which smell awful and I don't like putting chemicals on my animals or my carpets. I think this was a great "How to" article!

yes good ideas! thanks! i tried the Borax and salt together at the same time, and it has really helped. i think the animals bedding is the hardest to kill. i noticed a remarkable decrease in biting and scratching after a day or 2.
