This article will teach you how to make playdough at home.

Difficulty: Moderate
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • 2 Cups Baking Soda
  • 1 1/2 Cups of Water
  • 1 Cup of Cornstarch
  • 1 Teaspoon of Cooking Oil
  • Food Coloring
  • A couple of different plastic mixing bowls
  1. Step 1

Mix all dry ingredients in mixing bowl. Add oil and water. Cook in non stick pan over medium heat until it reaches the consistency of mashed potatoes.

  2. Step 2

Remove from heat. Separate spoonful amounts into the different plastic mixing bowls. Add one to two drops of food coloring into which bowl (which ever color you desire) and kneed the color into the dough. The kneading will also help the dough to become stiffer as it cools.

  3. Step 3

Once you have added the color and kneaded the dough to a thicker consistency, you can store the playdough in plastic baggies or in plastic bowls. Enjoy!

Tips & Warnings
  • The mixture will cool quickly. What I have done is to split the mixture up and cook, add food coloring, and then kneed it. You can always go back to the mixture and cook more of it when ready.
  • The mixture will be hot when you take it out of the pan. Be very careful when kneading the mixture with the food coloring not to burn yourself.
  • Food coloring can stain your clothes, so be careful!
