Step1
Go shopping for your make over tools. This is not going to be inexpensive, but it is for YOU, so splurge a little- it is worth it.
These are the stores to frequent for high quality merchandise at (somewhat) lower prices, where you will come back with tasteful staples for your make over. You are NOT going for the Britney Spears look, you are going after a more put-together, fun, youthful look. No, that does not mean that you should show lots of skin. Here are the stores you need:
- Zara (for clothes, purses, shoes and other accessories)
- Sephora (for make up, skin care products)
- Anthropology (for clothes- last time I was there I saw Drew Barrymore
and Catherine O'Hara (mom from Home Alone)
- Saks Fifth avenue (for jeans and shoes. you need a pair of nice fitting (not too tight) jeans)

Step2
perfect sandals to go with jeans, not too high.
Here's what you are buying for yourself. In order to look healthier, confident, more fashionable and younger, you need some updated pieces. Here are basic staples that you need:
1) Well cut and fitted jeans. We are beyond Levi's and acid washed jeans these days, ladies! You need some stylish jeans that show off your figure. Consider the following brand: Seven http://www.7forallmankind.com/, Paper Denim and Cloth, Citizens of Humanity, Diesel (typically for thinner frames). Jeans should NOT be too tight. You should be able to get in and out of them by yourself!
2) You need some nice heels to wear with your jeans. Yep, they're going to cost you, but its worth it. Try:
www.bloomingdales.com, www.nordstrom.com, and www.bluefly.com
You want comfortable, yet fun heels. Not streetwalker heels. See picture for an example.
3) You need some comfortable, fitted, updated t-shirts, blouses and fun tops. Remember, you should not be wearing tops with glitter, or that say anything ridiculous, or that are hot pink, too tight, show too much clevage, are see-through, or that you've seen on Jessica Simpson in US Magazine. Go with fitted tank tops, and tube tops, but just bring a sweater to put over your shoulders to dress it up a little. Zara will be a great place to shop for cute tops that you can wear out or to the office.
4) Other miscellaneous items that you need... Ditch the cheezy soccer mom shoes and opt for flip flops when you are on the go. Do not wear typical boring mom gear around town. If you have errands to run, opt for a juicy sweatsuit, or put on your cute new jeans and your new flip flops. Get some fun new jewelry. No, we're not talking Tiffany jewelry. Go for some silver bangles, hoop earrings and chunky silver rings.
Step3
Beauty care. Ok, you have the clothes and accessories. Now, it is time to focus on your personal care.
Hair maintenance. First of all, have you had your eyebrows waxed lately? Don't do them yourself, get your brows waxed at the fancy salon. While you're there, ask for a haircut from the best male hairdresser they have. Do not get anything drastic, but you need an updated style. Hair can have a huge impact on your face. Your hair can make or break your look. Tell the hairdresser (who should be someone you have NEVER gone to before) that you want an updated, stylish look. Maybe even show him a picture from a magazine. Ask your hairdresser to show you how to wear casual styles such as a bun, ponytail, or a style with accessories. Hair accessories definitely liven things up and make your look fresh and younger.
Face. Skin care experts say that the sun is the number one source of skin damage and early aging. You need suncreen everyday. You also need your face to be cleansed and hydrated. Here's what you should do. Go get a facial. After your facial you will be glowing and you can start your new skin care regimen with a fresh face. Washing your face everynight and everymorning. Use lots of moisturizer and make sure that your products are right for your skin. As you esthetician what she recommends based on the type of skin you have and find out what your problem areas are. You need to drinks lots of water. Water will make your skin look better. Always wear a hat outside.
Body. You need to cut grease and some fats out of your diet. Period. Eat NOTHING fried. No french fries, no cheese sticks, no fish and chips, no fried chicken, no fried clams, no fried anything (crab cakes are also a fried no- no). Also, try to cut out the following: hamburgers, hotdogs, pizza, phad thai, nachos, white rice, all fast food, cake, ice cream, beer and bagles. You will be stunned by how easy it will be to lose and/or maintain your weight if you follow the above. Remember: portion control!! Never, ever, finish EVERYTHING on your plate. You are required to leave something, anything, at least a bite. You don't need it.
Step4
Excerise. You have to walk. You have to get some activity built into your day. You will not feel good sitting on your tush all day. Make sure you get outside and walk around the block for at least 45 mins. It is raining, walk your stairs in your house or apartment building for 45 mins. If you don't have stairs, do push ups and sit ups in front of the TV for 45 mins. Do something, do anything.
