How to Select Jerseys for a Soccer Team

Unlike other team sports, youth soccer rarely reuses the uniforms and names of professional teams. In youth soccer, it's more likely that the team jerseys will have little or no ornamentation at all, but that doesn't mean there won't be plenty of uniform options for you to choose from.

Instructions

Difficulty: Easy

Things You’ll Need:

  • A local sporting goods store

Select a Color Scheme and Name for Your Team

Step1
Encourage the soccer team to choose a name, if they don't already have one. A team will often want to vote on a name. Depending on how young the players are. the name suggestions can get very creative.
Step2
Consider the team name and select a color scheme that would suit it. Soccer uniforms tend to have a much wider selection of colors than other sports jerseys. You'll most likely find available uniforms in any color scheme you select.
Step3
Find out if the team would be interested in ordering shorts and socks along with jerseys. Ordering them all at the same time will give you more options to work with and ensure that all players match on the field. This is a question for the parents, too, because overall cost may be affected.

Order the Jerseys

Step1
Go to your local sporting goods store and ask if they sell uniforms for soccer teams. If they don't, they'll probably be able to recommend you to a nearby place that does.
Step2
Get a feel for the kind of jerseys you can order by browsing websites like Epic Sports (see Resources below). You'll be able to see the range of colors and designs available to you so you can select one which helps your team stand out on the field.
Step3
Make a list of the uniform sizes of each player on your team. Ask the parents if they would also like a jersey. You can then get a good idea of how many jerseys you need in each size.
Step4
Order the jerseys. Order a few extras in the process, for those times when players lose or damage their uniforms. Because of the bulk prices, you may end up with extras anyway.

Tips & Warnings

  • Find a sponsor for your team. Most soccer jerseys will lack any lettering and only have numbers. If you get a sponsor for your team, you might consider getting the team name embroidered on each of the jerseys with or without the players' names as well.
  • Don't get carried away. Most team budgets will be very small to accommodate the financial situations of all families involved.
