Spinning, which is an exercise regimen involving a specialized stationary bike in a classroom setting, is becoming wildly popular because of its cardiovascular and fat-burning benefits. Join a Spinning Class

Step1
Locate a gym or training facility convenient for you, which offers Spinning classes. See Resources below for an excellent site to find the perfect Spinning instruction for you.
Step2
Ask the Spinning instructors if you can sit in and observe one of the Spinning classes before you join. This way, you can ensure that you're comfortable with both the surroundings and the coaching style of the instructors.
Step3
Select the appropriate attire for your Spinning workout. Bicycling shorts are highly recommended, since they provide more comfort and protection due to their chamois material through the crotch and their form-fitting design. Cycling shoes are designed to work well with the types of pedals on the stationary bike you will be using. Ask your instructors for more specific tips on appropriate Spinning attire.
Step4
Purchase a heart rate monitor, if needed, since the tempo of the workout will be dependent on raising your heart rate to a certain level. Some Spinning classes have bicycles already equipped with monitors, so check in advance. You can still have a fairly effective Spinning workout without a monitor by using an RPE (Relative Perceived Exertion) scale, but a monitor will be much more useful.
Step5
Consult with your Spinning instructor about any nutritional guidelines or equipment purchases that can maximize your performance level and give you a competitive edge in the class. Check websites about Spinning, such as Spinning.com, for additional tips on how to increase the potential benefits of this effective exercise routine (see Resources below).

Tips & Warnings

  • Avoid dehydration by consuming at least one ounce of water per one minute of Spinning. This may vary according to total body weight. Spinning rooms are actually designed to be high-temperature, high-humidity environments, so don't underestimate how much you will sweat during a Spinning workout.
  • Check with your physician before you join a Spinning class to determine if you are healthy enough to participate. Individuals with a history of heart or back problems should probably avoid Spinning.
