Things You'll Need:
- Appropriate clothing
- Enrollment fees
- Protective padding and helmet
-
Step 1
Locate a kickboxing or martial arts facility in your area that specializes in Muay Thai kickboxing. Using a resource such as GymTicket.com is an effective way to find the Muay Thai instructor closest to where you live (see Resources below).
-
Step 2
Arrange to sit in and observe a class. See if you are comfortable with the surroundings and the training methods of the instructors. Do they offer a lot of one-on-one training, or do the class sizes seem too large? Are the instructors properly certified to teach Muay Thai? Getting the right answers to your questions will determine which facility is right for you.
-
Step 3
Choose a class that is designed to fit your skill level. Remember, if you choose a class that is far too advanced, you may be discouraged, or even worse, injured. If you pick a class that doesn't challenge you sufficiently, you may quickly become bored.
-
Step 4
Ask your Muay Thai instructors about any special materials or supplies that are needed for the class, such as uniforms, protective padding or helmets. Be aware that most facilities do not include the cost of uniforms or protective gear with the enrollment fee, which could add significantly to the price of the class.
-
Step 5
Find out from your instructors about any nutritional or cross-training advice they may have that can enhance your enjoyment of kickboxing. Many kickboxers stress the importance of the proper diet, as well as activities, such as jumping rope, that can increase your effectiveness in the ring.
