How to Coach Little League Tee Ball

In tee ball, children learn the basic motor skills to play baseball in the future. They also learn the basics of participating in a team sport. A Little League tee ball coach has the responsibility to prepare children for the next step, keep them safe and keep it fun. Read on to learn how to coach Little League tee ball.

Instructions

    Become a Little League Tee Ball Coach

  1. Step 1

    Express interest in coaching tee ball to your local Little League. Ask them about opportunities in coaching available for the upcoming season. Even if no head positions are available, there may be opportunities to be assistant coach.

  2. Step 2

    Talk to parents of children who are signed up to play tee ball that year. Show them that you are somebody who they can trust and ask if there is a full coaching staff already lined up for their tee ball team.

    Be patient. Remember that you are working with young children and that coaching tee ball will at times resemble running a day care. The most important things the children will learn over the course of the season will be discipline and team work.

  5. Step 2

    Give all the children an equal chance. Even at that age, it will be clear that some children are much better than others. Rotate positions and give no preference to any players despite of their ability.

  6. Step 3

    Applaud good effort. Teaching the children that trying hard in tee ball will stick with them throughout their sports careers and carry on with them for the rest of their lives.

  7. Step 4

    Teach the kids the rules of the game. Baseball is a complicated sport, but if the children gets the basics in tee ball, they will know the game well for the years to come.

  8. Step 5

    Stress safety with your team. Baseball is a sport with metal bats and hard balls. Even in tee ball, injury is a possibility. Give the kids a good background on safety first.
