Learn How to Do Yoga From Websites

Step1
Start by checking out the FAQ's at Yoga Basics, an online guide to practicing yoga (see Resources below). Many of your basic questions will be answered.
Step2
Look for yoga websites that offer several photos for each pose, so you can get a realistic idea of how you should look.
Step3
Read completely through the directions for the position before you attempt it for the first time.
Step4
Do your yoga poses in front of a mirror, so that you can compare your position to the online photos.

Practice Yoga With Online Videos

Step1
Find a website offering online yoga classes. While there are free options available, membership fees and registration is usually required. Even the most expensive member only yoga sites tend to be cheaper than attending a weekly class.
Step2
Download the video or audio of the yoga class you want to practice. Most videos are optimized for watching on your MP3 player if you want to take the videos on the road.
Step3
Watch the entire video through one time just to get an idea of the positions involved. This will keep you from having to rewind the video several times just to keep up with the instructor.
Step4
Feel free to skip portions of the yoga video to make your routine shorter or fall within your skill level. Once you have practiced technique, you can mix up the positions without following the video.
Step5
Download a new video when the routine becomes boring or too easy. The beauty of doing yoga online is the ability to try several classes from the comfort of your home.

Tips & Warnings

  • Make sure you choose videos and tutorial that are within your skill range. If you are just starting out, do beginner poses until you feel comfortable moving to more difficult positions.
  • Consider a subscription to am online yoga center that offers streaming video. You will have access to hundreds of full-length videos, which means you can change styles or teachers at whim. However, you will not be able to download a copy to keep on your computer.
  • Do not push yourself too hard. Without a teacher to guide you, you may inadvertently do yoga positions incorrectly, seriously injuring yourself.
