The expression "and baby makes three" neglects to mention that the baby weight you gained during pregnancy made more of you than there used to be too. However, you can take comfort in knowing that the weight gain isn't permanent. In fact, with a little effort, you can work off that baby weight in no time at all and have a great time doing it, too. If you want to regain your girlish figure, then you need to learn how to join a Mom and Baby Class to work off the baby weight. Follow these steps to find out how.

Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Medical releases, if required
  • Exercise mat
  • Towels
  • Swimming diapers, if applicable
  • Bottled water

Join a Mom and Baby Class

  1. Step 1

Visit or call your local YMCA or other fitness facility to find out if they have a Mom and Baby Class schedule.

  2. Step 2

Browse the bulletin board at your pediatrician's office, or simply ask if they can recommend a Mom and Baby Class the next time your baby is scheduled for a checkup.

  3. Step 3

Determine which Mom and Baby Class is right for you and your baby. There are several different kinds of classes available. Of course, you can sign up for more than one.

  4. Step 4

Join a general Mom and Baby Fitness Class to slim down and tone up. This kind of class generally focuses on stretching exercises and low impact aerobics.

  5. Step 5

Work off excess baby weight and develop core strength at the same time by joining a Mom and Baby Pilates Class. Note that you may need to provide your own floor mat, towel and pillow. This class is suitable for babies to participate in the movements if they're 6 weeks or older.

  6. Step 6

Consider diving into an H-2-O Mom and Baby Class for a water workout. This class provides a great aerobic conditioning opportunity for moms, and babies naturally love the water. Note that most facilities will provide flotation devices for baby, but you'll have to supply your own towels, swimming diapers, etc.

Tips & Warnings
  • Sip some bottled water in between workouts to refresh yourself and to avoid becoming dehydrated. Bring some along for baby too.
  • If you decide to join a Mom and Baby Aqua Class, then you might want to invest in swimming pants, which fit over regular diapers. It's much easier to change a diaper, if needed, than to clean swimming pants.
  • You may be required to produce a medical release for you and/or your baby to participate in some Mom and Baby classes.
