    Join a Chair Aerobics Class

  1. Step 1

Find out about chair aerobics in your area. Many hospitals can provide you with information about this type of aerobics. It is increasingly popular for elderly patients and can be found in rehab and senior centers.

  2. Step 2

Perform chair aerobics at home. Visit SitAndBeFit.com to learn techniques for chair aerobics (see Resources below). After joining this online support site, you can view videos of routines and purchase DVDs to perform entire classes.

  3. Step 3

Join a chair aerobics class through the American Diabetes Foundation. You can find a link to its Web site at SitAndBeFit.com. Call the diabetes hotline to get information at 1-800-DIABETES (342–2383). Also inquire about a free copy of "A Guide to Changing Habits."

  4. Step 4

Go to a community center to join a chair aerobics class. This type of town resource can assist you in finding activities to help improve your fitness. It's also a good way to get involved in your community and bond with others who share the same health challenges.

Tips & Warnings
  • Chair aerobics is not just for those suffering from limited mobility. This form of workout is demanding enough for people at higher fitness levels who might have limited space. Try it in the office, or at school during your lunch hour.
  • Choose a chair with a padded seat and offers good back support. Be sure your feet are able to rest flat on the floor and that you can sit on the front edge of the seat without tipping forward.
