The Super Bowl is one of the biggest sporting events in the world, with literally millions of viewers from around the world tuning in to see the big game. It's more fun to watch in a group, however, which is why there are so many Super Bowl parties every year. If you're going to host a Super Bowl party, you'll need to select the right food for your guests. It can be tricky, but with a little help your party will have the best food available for everyone who attends.

Select Food for a Super Bowl Party

Step1
Select a nice assortment of the standard fare from the local supermarket. Potato chips, tortilla chips, crackers and similar finger foods are always great to have on hand for a Super Bowl party. Be sure to get an assortment of dips and spreads, too.
Step2
Splurge on your guests a little and buy a nice selection of cheeses. Cheese platters that include popular cheeses like cheddar and gouda are great, but you can also spend a little more and get some excellent cheeses like Gruyeres or Stilton for the platter.
Step3
Factor in your guests' dietary needs when you select food for your Super Bowl party. Some of your guests may be vegetarian or vegan, which requires foods to be prepared in special ways. Ask your guests ahead of time if they want or need specific foods for the game.
Step4
Make your party a potluck style gathering. Host the party and provide all of the alcohol, but ask your guests to each bring a dish or two to help round out the menu.
Step5
Have a dedicated menu in addition to the finger foods. Buy steaks and other great grilling meats and include other common cookout fare like baked beans, cole slaw and chili.
Step6
Order take-out. Chinese food and pizza are both perfect meals for a Super Bowl party and can be delivered right to your door.

Tips & Warnings

  • Prepare foods in advance so you don't have to make it on the day of the Super Bowl. Marinate meats the day before, put frozen desserts in the freezer to let them set. You might even want to transfer dips and salsas and other such foods onto plates so all you have to do is take them out of the refrigerator.
  • Be aware if people are enjoying themselves they may drink a bit too much and therefore be unfit to drive. Instill a "designated driver" policy, or simply collect everyone's car keys before the start of the party so that no one drives drunk.
  • Take valuables out of the living room or wherever the game is being shown. When the refs start blowing calls and fans' tempers rise, your good China could end up in pieces!
