The right party favors allow them to feel a part of the unity Holy Communion celebrates. Begin your search early to select the favors that are just right for your First Communion party.

Select First Communion Party Favors

Step1
Reflect on your budget and how much are you planning to spend. Give yourself a price range rather than a definitive figure. Finding the right articles is very important, and you don't want to have skimp too much.
Step2
Select a theme or sentiment that you would like the favors to communicate. Favors that feature a Bible verse (for example, Luke 22:19), a thoughtful saying, a cross or an angel in addition to the child's name will convey this message.
Step3
Review as many kinds of favors as you can on the Internet or in a local store. Go for meaning over flash and expense. A good starting place is Favor Warehouse (see Resources below).
Step4
Observe the price ranges and what you get for your money. A votive candle in a cross-shaped holder, a bejeweled cross bookmark or an angel-shaped picture frame are only a few of things that can be purchased very inexpensively. For large budgets there are engraved crystal bells, figurines, trinket boxes and even crystal vases.
Step5
Save money by using ribbon engraved with the child's name and the date to decorate the favors rather than engraving the objects themselves.
Step6
Consider making the favors yourself. Ready-made materials such as candles, silk flowers and small boxes and bags can be purchased at any craft store. A glue gun and a little ingenuity can produce a beautiful favor with great sentimental value as well.

Tips & Warnings

  • Some churches have ladies' craft clubs that make small articles which could be used as party favors. Put in a request. Even if you pay for the materials, the finished products will be less expensive and as good, if not better, than commercially made things.
  • The theme of the entire day should focus on the rite of communion, how it draws the Christian closer to Christ, and why it is such an important milestone in the child's life.
  • It is better to choose a simple but sturdy item over a fancy one that won't survive the car trip home.
  • Be sure to count all your RSVP's. If you don't you could be seriously over- or under-stocked with favors.
