One of the most important events in the lives of some young women is the day they are officially presented into society at a debutant ball. In previous decades, the place where the debutant ball was held was almost as important as the people who came to honor the debutant. Today, venue is important, but it doesn't always hold quite as much of the prestige as it used to. Still, you'll want to make sure you select a venue you'll be comfortable with.

Select a Venue for a Debutant Ball

Step1
Hire a coordinator to help you find an appropriate venue. Coordinators who are used to organizing debutant balls may be able to point you in the right direction or recommend a venue previous clients have successfully booked.
Step2
Look to well-known hotels in the area. Large, prestigious hotels usually have good-sized rooms that are perfect for hosting a debutant ball. Most of these ballrooms are tastefully decorated and may even have a small reception room for the debutant to receive guests.
Step3
Search for historic estates in the area where you can rent out an authentic ballroom. This is a unique way to bring an element of turn-of-the-century (or earlier) charm to your debutant ball.
Step4
Search for private halls. More than likely, there are several religious organizations or clubs in your area with substantial halls for rent. You can contact the head of the organization for information on renting and restrictions.
Step5
Contact your local high school. The high school probably plans several off-campus dances, such as the winter formal and prom, every year. The dance committee may know of a venue you can select for your debutant ball.
Step6
Visit each potential venue to make sure it would be appropriate for a debutant ball and will hold all of your guests comfortably. You may want to ask about the maximum capacity with chairs and tables and without.

Tips & Warnings

  • Make a list of all the venues you've seen. You might want to include details such as the price, distance and prestige of each. This may help you eliminate less-desirable choices quickly.
  • The venue is an important part of a debutant ball, but don't overspend. You might be tempted to rent out the ballroom in the biggest five-star resort in town, but going way over your budget for the venue might cause you to cut back in other, equally important, areas--which could be disastrous for the ball.
