Confirmation is an important rite of passage in many churches, both Catholic and Protestant. It represents the deepening of spiritual gifts as well as full membership into the church. It is a big step in a young person's life. As such, the accomplishment of it demands a party!

Instructions

Difficulty: Moderately Easy

Things You’ll Need:

  • Venue
  • Food
  • Party invitations

Plan a Party for Your Child's Confirmation

Step1
Decide how many guests to invite and consider the scope of the guest list. Decide whether you want a big party or a small gathering and set the parameters as you see fit. You can include your immediate family only, your extended family or even family, friends, neighbors--everybody!
Step2
Choose a venue. Depending on where you live, you can select an indoor or outdoor venue. Many public parks allow for private parties.
Step3
Decide whether it will be a brunch or luncheon, a barbecue, a sit-down dinner or a dessert party.
Step4
Send out invitations. You may want to give them a formal tone, along the lines of "You are cordially invited to attend the confirmation of [name of confirmand] on [date and time]." Be sure to send out invitations at least a couple of weeks in advance to give everyone a chance to clear their schedules.
Step5
Decide whether or not you want to hire entertainment, such as a band, a DJ, a magician or a comedian. Double-check with the confirmand to make sure he or she finds your choice as entertaining as you do.
Step6
Decide approximately how late the party will go to and make the guests aware of this plan in advance. Some people may need to show up late, while others may want to make other plans on the same day. They may even have other confirmation parties to attend.

Tips & Warnings

  • Know your budget! Party planning of any kind can get very expensive. Do your bargain shopping well in advance so that you can plan out a party that is both enjoyable and affordable.
  • Remember that the party is for the person being confirmed. As such, you should keep her in the loop regarding party decisions. Ask her what she'd like to eat, what activities she'd like to do and whom she'd like to invite.
  • The party will probably begin in the early afternoon, after the confirmation ceremony is completed. Depending on how much and what kind of food you have, you may decide to have the party end in the early evening or extend well into the night.
