The party is planned, the menu is prepared and the wine list is hanging on the refrigerator door. The next step is letting people know you're planning to host a party. Set the date, the theme and the mood with the right invitation.

Pick Invitations for a Wine and Cheese Party

Step1
Decide on a theme for your invitations. If the party has no specific theme, apart from serving wine and cheese, choose a more general invitation.
Step2
Decide on an overall tone for your wine and cheese party. If you want your party to be laid back and casual, try humorous invitations. If you'd prefer a classy and elegant get-together, find invitations to match.
Step3
Find miniature flags and attach them to the invitations if you're featuring wines and cheeses from several countries.
Step4
Pick out paper embellishments, like grapes or cheese blocks, to accent your invitations. Themed embellishments can be found at Michaels.com (see Resources below).
Step5
Photograph wine and cheese, or find photographs online and feature them on the invitations.
Step6
Include menus in your invitations, giving your guests an idea of what to expect.
Step7
Stray from traditional paper invitations and try something new. Mail tasting glasses to each of your guests, send out cheese slicers or give each of your guests a small wine and cheese journal. Include space for taking notes.
Step8
Sign up for a free online website and create an interactive Web invitation. Allow your guests to reserve their spots with the click of a mouse. Include your full menu or, if you are having a potluck, provide a space for guests to enter what they plan to bring.
Step9
Create invitations that look like wine bottle labels or cheese wheels. Corks, cheese graters and cows are popular shapes to use for invitations.
Step10
Send last minute invitations over the Internet (see Resources below). You can also create an invitation on your computer and attach it to an email.

Tips & Warnings

  • Typically, creating homemade invitations is more cost-effective than purchasing pre-made invitations.
  • Pick a phone number to which your guests can respond. You'll want to know how many guests to expect, allowing you to plan purchases.
