Things You'll Need:
- Doll pricing guide
-
Step 1
Go to an online auctions site to see what your model of doll is selling for. Be aware of notes on condition and accessories, as these can dramatically affect the price.
-
Step 2
Get a doll pricing guide, such as "200 Years of Dolls: Identification & Price Guide" by Dawn Horlocher so you'll have some idea what your doll is worth before you try to trade it (see Resources below). For older dolls, you can also look at one of the "Wallace-Homestead Price Guide to Dolls" publications by Robert William Miller.
-
Step 3
Call an appraiser who has experience working with dolls if you feel your doll is potentially valuable. You can find appraisers at doll shows. You can also occasionally find doll appraisers online.
-
Step 1
Try a webring. The Vintage Barbie Ring, for example, features websites created by people who like to trade or sell vintage Barbies (see Resources below).
-
Step 2
Go to an online doll-themed message board or bulletin board and post a message about the doll you would like to trade. You can also read messages about dolls that others are looking for. World Collectors Net has a Barbie message board (see Resources below).
-
Step 3
Place classified ads stating that you have dolls to sell or trade. You can often place ads online with local or national publications and on doll-related message and bulletin boards or forums.
