Barbie doll clothes are a big part of the fun of owning a Barbie doll. Whether you are a lifelong collector, or are buying a first Barbie for a child, having a variety of outfits for the doll can bring excitement to the pleasures of ownership.

    Select Barbie Clothes and Accessories

  1. Step 1

Do some online browsing before you make a selection. Online stores generally have a good selection of Barbie clothes and accessories you can browse to get yourself familiar with standard commercially-available Barbie products before you buy (see Resources below).

  2. Step 2

Select clothes and accessories for variety. For example, if the Barbie is a formal Barbie, consider buying play clothes or a swimming suit. If she came wearing a jeans outfit, consider a glamorous gown and jewelry to match.

  3. Step 3

Recognize that there are more options than ever for dressing up Barbie. Consider selecting Barbie doll clothes patterns and sewing some clothes yourself.

  4. Step 4

Choose an alternative shopping venue, as opposed to a large retailer, if you want to find more unique styles to fit a Barbie doll. For example, you can purchase homemade Barbie clothing from Barbee & Friends Doll Clothes (see Resources below). You may also want to check out online auctions sites where people sell hand-crafted items.

  5. Step 5

Choose an era. You can purchase vintage Barbie clothing as well as new clothing. Auctions sites or Barbie collectors' sites sell Barbie clothes from the 1980s and other eras (see Resources below).

  6. Step 6

Select Barbie doll clothes and accessories according to collection. There have been many Barbie doll collections over the years, including Barbie Princess, Beach Fun, Fairytopia and My Bling Bling. Choose a collection and buy clothes and accessories from within the collection. This is a good approach to take if you want to create a themed Barbie collection of your own.

  7. Step 7

Know that Barbie was made to be dressed-up, so it's okay to "think outside the box." If you see an accessory, such as hair glitter or a small tiara, you can give it to Barbie even if it is not "authorized" merchandise.

Tips & Warnings
  • Generic doll clothes may not fit your Barbie. Make sure the clothes you select state on the box or in an advertisement that they are for a "Barbie fit."
