Things You'll Need:
- Willingness to make life altering changes!
-
Step 1
Start by using the MyPyramid.gov site. Create an account and being totally honest, input your food intake and exercise every day.
You are the only person that has to see it - so be honest! -
Step 2
Get your medical team on board! Get your doctor to approve a good work out schedule &/or routine. This may be as simple as lifing 5 pound weights to start - or going swimming 5 days a week. Get a referral to a nutitionist to recommend the diet changes you can start with.
-
Step 3
Start reducing your fat intake. This doesn't mean don't use olive oil persay - but it does mean stop going through fast food joints for meals.
Yes, this can be enough for many to turn that first major life change corner! -
Step 4
Increase your fish and lean protein intake. This means Salmon, fresh tuna, skinless chicken, pork loin. You can also try some of the various liquid and powder proteins on the market.
IF you have WLS surgery, you will need to find a liquid protein you like as it will be a daily part of your intake.
The one I like and recommend is called PROFECT. Check your local nutitional supplement store - ask them to carry it if they do not already. http://profect.com is the makers site.
Often your supplement store will give you a discount if you are having WLS. So ASK! If they don't, check around - you'll probably find a good discount provider. -
Step 5
Add nutritional suppliments to your daily routine. Following surgery, you will need the nutrition support as you'll no longer be able to obtain all that you need from the foods you eat. So be prepared to add:
1. Liquid multi-vitamin
2. Calcium
3. B - sublingual works grea
4. Iron - Solaray makes a time release!
I also found that a small glass or orange juice keeps the folic acid right. Cranberry is great as well.
