Ever wonder how to achieve Theatrical sound in your living room? Get the rich contrast, and depth of color, so vibrant that it’s close to reality? All this is possible with a little bit of knowledge, focus in the right direction, and avoiding to sacrifice quality. Let’s go ahead and analyze the main parts of a Home Entertainment Center.

Instructions

Difficulty: Moderately Easy

Things You’ll Need:

  • Living Room (or any spacious area worth sitting in for hours)
  • Budget
  • Home Theater in a Box
  • Display (DLP T.V, Plasma, Projector, etc.)
  • High-Definition DVD Player
  • High-Definition Cable Box
  • (2) 30ft HDMI Cables
  • (2) Optical Cables
  • Seats (couch, bed, chairs, bench, etc.)
  • Popcorn!
Step1
Choose an area to setup your Home Entertainment Center. The following components of the home theater will be installed: a display, 5 speakers, 1 sub-woofer, DVD player, Amplifier, and a Cable Box.
Step2
Choose a Display. When choosing a Display Make sure the display is at least 720p or 1080i. This is the resolution, at which you will receive High Definition quality, through a High Definition source. Make sure the display has 2 HDMI inputs.
Step3
Choose a Home Theater in a Box, which is 5.1 ch. (this includes the following: 1 front right, 1 front left, center channel, rear right, rear left speaker, and a sub-woofer). You will need a system which provides at least 500 watts of power. This kit will also include the amplifier.
Step4
Purchase a High-Definition DVD player with an HDMI output, and a High-Definition cable box with a HDMI output.
Step5
Connect the DVD player and the cable box through the HDMI input, to the display. Connect the audio of the DVD player and the cable box, through the optical output, to the external amplifier.
Step6
The basic setup: you should have a display centered in front of your seat, a center channel beneath the display, a right channel to the right of the display, a left channel to the left of the display, a rear right channel to the rear right of your seat, a rear left channel to the rear left of your seat, and a sub-woofer in a front corner.
Step7
Grab some popcorn, sit back, relax, and enjoy High Definition in your own home!

Tips & Warnings

  • Using high grade wire, the richer the picture and audio quality. A good brand to purchase is Monster Cable or Ultralink.
  • The bigger the display, the greater the viewing distance is required.
  • Dimming the lights, and limiting the ambient light within the room, will increase the contrast in picture.
  • Addiction to Loud sound, and watching excessive amount of movies can occur.
  • Hatred towards Standard Definition is likely to occur, within the first 5 minutes High Definition is viewed.
