These instructions will help you and your friends network your computers so that you can copy huge files off of each others computers (even entire folders of stuff).
free GigaTribe software (available at http://www.gigatribe.com)
Step1
Download & Install GigaTribe: Go to http://www.gigatribe.com and download their free software. Next, install it. Then create a username account (you don't have to give personal info like an email account if you don't want to)
Step2
Next, you select one or more folders on your computer that you want to share with your friends. To do this, click on the Network tab + click on "Modify my shared folders" link. Then, on the left side, you navigate to the folder on your computer you want to share; once you've selected it, right-click and select "share folder" + click on OK. Now the folder shows up on the right hand side; this means that the friends in your network will be able to see the folder and its contents.
Step3
Next, you want to get your friend(s) into your network! At the top right of the software, there's an icon with a green "+" sign and a person. Click on it to invite your friends into your network. Once they are in, they'll be able to see your username (in the Network tab); when they double click on your username, they'll be able to see the folders and files you're sharing. When they double click on a file, they will begin copying it (downloading) to their own computer.
Step4
When you or a friend has downloaded a file from someone else's computer, they show up in My Documents, in a folder called My GigaTribe Downloads!
Tips & Warnings
Make sure that when your friends join they remember to share some of their folders!
Also, there's a chat area so that you can chat in real time with your friends.
You can also set it up to access your computer from remote locations (you just need to create a 2nd username so that you can give yourself access to the 1st username's computer)
Warning, this software is addictive! Once you start adding a lot of people, you'll find yourself constantly exchanging files back and forth!
