Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Things You’ll Need:
-
10 minutes
-
10 dollars
-
1 internet connection
Step1
Choose a 'domain' name that you want your email address to reside on. This will be the part after the @ sign. Like me@mydomain.com.
You can choose a .com, .net, .info, .biz and many more. Be careful though, you'll need to make sure the name is available in the next step.
Step2
You'll need to find an agent to register your domain name. They're called 'registrars'.
However, to make the process extremely easy, Google and Microsoft have partnered with registrars to allow you to register a domain name and use their mail service on your OWN doman.
Step3
For Google, just go to this link:
http://www.google.com/a/cpanel/domain/new
You'll just need to create a Google account, then choose your domain name and you'll be all set.
When you're done, you can log in to your new address at www.gmail.com but instead of something@gmail.com, you'll have emai@yourdomain.com as the address!
Step4
If you'd rather use the Hotmail/Microsoft service, go here:
https://domains.live.com/Signup/SignupDomain.aspx
and choose the 'Purchase a new domain' option.
