How to Throw a Sinker

If you want to learn a great pitch for getting ground-ball outs, the sinker is your pitch. This pitch will drop right on the back of the plate.

Things You'll Need

• A baseball
• A catcher
• Catcher's gear
• Baseball glove

Instructions

1. 

   Place your index and middle fingers on the horseshoe seam. your fingers should be across from each other so a U-shape is formed with your fingers.

2. Place your ring and pinky fingers on the side, just barely touching the ball so your throw is more stable.

3. Throw the ball as you normally would, but snap your wrist down toward the ground as you release,and push with your middle and index fingers.

Tips & Warnings

• Throw the ball over the top or it will look like a slider.

• For you to get ground ball outs, you have to keep the sinker down in the strike zone.

• Kids shouldn't attempt this or any other breaking pitch, as it'll mess with their arm development.
