How to Play the Campaign in Age of Empires 3

The single-player campaign in Age of Empires 3 takes you through a number of different civilization's struggle to survive in a harsh world. Each scenario will have different objectives that must be met to ensure victory. If you've got the basics of the game down and are looking for something new to do, why not try it?

Instructions

1. Select the Campaign from the Single Player menu to begin.

2. Pay attention to what the characters say. They will give you directives that must be met in order for the scenario to progress. If the character says "send a Settler to light the beacon on the hill," send a Settler to where he specified. Locations will usually be pointed out on the minimap.

3. Build up your resources. Quite often, the scenario will provide you with a cache of resources, as well as enough Settlers gathering to keep you going for a while. However, the setup you start with is usually a long way from optimum, so scope it out and see how you can fix it up. As always, more resources to draw from will make conquering your enemy easier.

4. Remember to leave a garrison at your main city! This is important in all game modes, but especially important here, since the enemy will often have unending waves of troops at their disposal until you complete certain objectives. The last thing you want is to have your city overrun by hordes of enemies while your army is away fighting!

5. Grab that treasure! Scenarios will often be packed with treasure just ripe for the snatching! Some of it may not even be guarded, meaning that any of your units can wander by and grab it for you!
