Things You'll Need:
- Time
- Laughter
-
Step 1
Check out your local community "Parks and Recreation" website or newsletter to see what’s available in the neighborhood that you can do together as a family. Often, they organize great family activities that are free or low cost.
-
Step 2
Visit the library together and check out some books. Most libraries also have a collection of both new and old movies that you can check out for free. Have a family movie night with popcorn and your favorite snacks.
-
Step 3
Play a board game and make dessert together after that.
-
Step 4
Have a craft night and make crafts for each other. This will be a great activity on special occasions such as Valentines, Easter, Halloween, Thanksgiving or Christmas.
-
Step 5
Organize a family treasure hunt. Put inexpensive knick knacks in a box as the hidden treasure. Do this activity at home or in the park.
-
Step 6
Plant a garden or grow potted herbs when the weather permits. Kids love to get dirty and be outdoors. Besides, you will be able to enjoy the fruits of your labor in a few months.
-
Step 7
Bring out the telescope or binoculars and spend an evening gazing at the stars and moon.
-
Step 8
Go bike riding or take a walk as a family.
-
Step 9
Visit the museum on days when they have half price admission. Most zoos also have similar offers.
-
Step 10
Camp in your own backyard and have a marshmallow roast.
-
Step 11
Fishing is another inexpensive activity. There are parks where you can fish without any fees. Check the internet for local free fishing facilities.
-
Step 12
Go for a long drive and get ice cream cones.
-
Step 13
Perform a service project for a neighbor or family that is in need.
-
Step 14
Get a swim pass and go swimming.
-
Step 15
Be creative and enjoy each other’s company.

on 12/1/2008 Good tips, my family used to camp in the yard all the time. It's a blast.
