How to Have Frugal Family Fun

Spending time and having fun together as a family helps build good family relationships. One set back of doing fun things as a family is that they may be costly, especially if the family is a big one. However, family fun doesn’t always have to be an expensive endeavor. Here are some great frugal fun activities that you can do as a family.

  1. Step 1

    Check out your local community "Parks and Recreation" website or newsletter to see what’s available in the neighborhood that you can do together as a family. Often, they organize great family activities that are free or low cost.

  2. Step 2

    Visit the library together and check out some books. Most libraries also have a collection of both new and old movies that you can check out for free. Have a family movie night with popcorn and your favorite snacks.

  3. Step 3

    Play a board game and make dessert together after that.

  4. Step 4

    Have a craft night and make crafts for each other. This will be a great activity on special occasions such as Valentines, Easter, Halloween, Thanksgiving or Christmas.

    Organize a family treasure hunt. Put inexpensive knick knacks in a box as the hidden treasure. Do this activity at home or in the park.

  6. Step 6

    Plant a garden or grow potted herbs when the weather permits. Kids love to get dirty and be outdoors. Besides, you will be able to enjoy the fruits of your labor in a few months.

    Bring out the telescope or binoculars and spend an evening gazing at the stars and moon.

    Go bike riding or take a walk as a family.

    Visit the museum on days when they have half price admission. Most zoos also have similar offers.
