Families today face the challenge of finding quality time together. Our kids are getting older as our lifestyles get busier each day. Time is always limited. How then can we find time together as a family? Planning a family game night is one way that we can have quality time together that is both entertaining and memorable. Follow these steps to start planning one.

Instructions

Difficulty: Easy

Step1
Agree as a family when family game night will be held without distractions.
Step2
Remind and remind again everyone involved to keep the selected evening free for game night.
Step3
Decide on the game that will be played during family game night. Have family members first nominate and then vote on the games. Be sure to have games that are family favorites that are at a level that everyone can be involved in and still have fun.
Step4
Ignore all distractions such as TV or phone calls. Life-threatening emergencies are the exception.
Step5
Prepare snacks that the family can enjoy together.
Step6
Invite friends or other family members over if you want more fun.
Step7
Give reminders and get excited.
Step8
Have fun!

Tips & Warnings

  • To add a sense of competitiveness, make a colorful poster to record scores.
  • Provide inexpensive prizes for the winning team and also some consolation prizes for the losing team. This way, everyone wins.
  • If there are younger children, create partner teams.
  • Involve kids in the planning. The more involved they are, the more they will look forward to the activities.
  • Borrow games from friends that you do not have--games that you know are fun.
